Dalling, John

Looking for advice to help me find my John Dalling (abt. 1801), amongst the other three John Dallings, all born at the same time, in the Devon, England area.

I cannot find a immigration record, do I have to trace all the John's to find mine or is there an easier way?

Looking at Cindysw’s Profile, I think John Dalling immigrated to New Brunswick which is in Canada.


If this is true, he immigrated around 1820. He married a lady named Mary Chamber on October 9th, 1828. He is listed on the 1851 Canadian Census (says he entered the colony around 1820).

Try the Devon Archives and Local Studies.

Perhaps they know of parish registers that made a note of those emigrating, people tend to go in groups.

Do they have passenger lists for those leaving from Plymouth Devon?

Are there advertisements in the newspaper enticing people to emigrate circa 1820.

Well the 3 I can see
John at Heaton Punchardon ,there are two little boys who both die as children to John and Mary Dalling
There is a John Dalling born at Ilfracombe in 1798 but he is in Barnstaple on the 1871 census.
And that leaves the one at Washfield -John bprn 9th Jan 1799 bapt 25 March son of John Dalling.

Sibling William 3 April/26 July 1801 and possibly Sarah 24 Feb 1786-12.3.1786
William joined up 29 May 1819 to the 48th Foot Soldiers.

It looks like his mother was called Mary
Possible marriages
John Dalling yeoman and Mary Maunder of Studley at Washfield 15th March 1772 which seems really early and that Mary seems to be buried 1786.
or
John Dallin and Mary Courtney at Bickleigh 21 .May 1793 sojourners

No burials for the latter couple at Washfield.

I suppose we could widen the net a little further to different spellings and that gives us
John Dallyn and Mary children  of William and Elizabeth Dallyn 22.4.1804 at Bishops Tawton .
But it looks like he died in Barnstaple in 1878.


Does any of that seem likely?

The generation before at Washfield -children of John and Mary Dalling married 1772
Mary 3 May 1772,JOHN 13 th April 1774 (so the one who married 1793),Elizabeth 9 Dec 1775,Edward 17.10.1777,Ann 24 Dec 1779,Jenny 20.5.1782 and Sarah 24 Feb 1786.
Mary died giving birth to Sarah burial 14th May 1786.
I'm guessing John Senior 's parents were Edward and Mary but he was born in a different parish

My John Dalling (1801), according to the 1851 census for Sussex, Kings Co, New Brunswick, Canada, immigrated to St John, St John Co, New Brunswick, Canada in 1820.  On one census record the Devon, England is followed by a question mark (Devon, England?). His land petition is of no help because he is one of 28 on the petition, he settled in Waterford, Kings Co.

His birth year does not vary, it is 1801 on all records.

The John in Oare, Sussex interests me , he is the son of William and Frances, his oldest son is William and second daughter is Frances.  He married Mary Chambers and their second son and oldest daughter are her parents names.  Is that wishful thinking?

I met Johnny Dalling on my last trip to NB, the Dallings' still own the same land, they think Devon.

Does anyone know of a user that goes by Muddy Waters regarding his Dalling Family?
I wonder if he knows what happened to John Dalling born 9 Jan 1799 (bap. 25 Mar) to John and Mary (Courtney) Dalling of Washfield, sojoiners.
