I have a problem with FamilySearch, in that it automatically adds ancestors to known people on my tree - ancestors whom FamilySearch draws in from other people’s trees. That is, we get to, say, Joe Bloggs (1756-1810 of Preston Candover) and agree on his b.m.d places and dates, so it adds someone else’s guess as to who his father, grandfather and so on were, even though I think the other tree-master has made an erroneous guess at that point. How do I undo or block these automatically added guesses, and ensure that my tree either continues backwards in accordance with my own research, or simply stops at my 'brick walls' without adding other people's guesses?

Infuriating isn't it - but that's the nature of the 'shared' tree at Family Search. It is not your tree at all. I suspect only Ancestry, FindMyPast and MyHeritage subscription services offer truly private unalterable trees.

Not quite the same, but Thru-Lines on Ancestry does much the same thing. I have "potential ancestors" which I either know are wrong or cannot be proved, and there's no way to dismiss them. I keep my principal tree offline and just have an outline tree with Ancestry/My Heritage/etc for DNA matching.

You can get rid of the irritating 'Potential Ancestors' (who are no such thing) on Ancestry ThruLines using the Filter popdown at the top of the page - select 'Ancestors in your linked Tree' and all those green suggestions disappear
