Ancestry Library Version
« on: Wednesday 24 May 23 16:26 BST (UK) »
Hi

Does anyone know if the Ancestry Library version differs from the paid subscription version, in that I have found a Probate entry at the Library for a William Palmer, Liverpool, Grocer dated 7 April 1835, but it is only a transcription giving just the information above.  I have looked at the Government Will site, but can't find it. Would it be different on the paid subscription Ancestry site, or is that all it says?

Presumably this is the entry
Name   Palmer, William
Dates   Apr 1835
Place   Liverpool, Cheshire, England
Book   Marriage Licences Granted within the Dincese of Chester. (Marriage)
Collection   Cheshire: Chester - Wills and Administrations, 1834-1837
Volume   Lancashire Wills

Chapter   Brereton Cum Smethwicke
Text   Palmer, William, Liverpool, grocer. A Apr 1835

ADDED I see that transcript mentions marriage and wills  :-\

The government wills site only covers wills from 1858 (when the central probate system started).

You reference is to a Lancashire Will from the Archdeaconry of Chester. You could order a copy through Lancashire archives.

But - images of those wills are also available (free) through FamilySearch although they can take a bit of finding.

It's the same on the paid version, Mo.
There are two entries, one under Extracted UK Probate Records 1269-1975, and one undr Lancashire England Index of Wills and Probates proved ar Richmond and Chester 1600-1858.
The latter one does have a link to purchase a copy, if that helps.
I am Australian, from all the lands I come (my ancestors, at least!)

Thanks everyone. His daughter was called Julia so sounds very promising.
Thanks again.

It's not a will, it's an administration, and is on FamilySearch (two images)

I guess it means William died intestate, didn't leave a will.
Julia was granted administration of his estate.
A more technical explanation may be provided by someone else!
