Repository Stated In Source / Citation

Hi All,

Hope you enjoyed the Coronation weekend and found time to get some reasearch done 

A question I now have is when creating your Citation / Source what repository do you give ?

I.E
The BMD Indexies are available on multiple sites as well as at the National Archives and the GRO, do you put where you found it or do you put it as the main holder / repository even if you found the entry on a website ?

I think you have to ask: Who owns the copyright?

If I know for certain where the original document is located (such as a county records office) I quote the location and file/document reference number.

Otherwise I use the recommended citation method for scholarly works using online sources:
Author (if applicable); title; website link, date accessed.  For example:
F1fan: "Repository Stated In Source / Citation" https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=872812.0 (accessed 3 June 2023)

An index is not an original document, so it doesn't really matter which index you cite.
