Death of John Armstong

The same sort of information ie C1871 for the other John Armstrong mentioned in above posts would be most welcome.

Can only find this one with a Haltwhistle connection:

John Armstrong; Head of Household; Married; 60 years of Age; Agricultural Labourer; born Haltwhistle
Ellenor; wife; 58 years of age; born Haltwhistle

The main stumbling block to finding the correct John Armstrong who was buried in Knaresdale in 1877 is that without something like the death cert which 'may' give a clue from the informant we have no other point of reference to use.

A search of the 1871 census (England & Wales) for John Armstrong born 1811+/-2 brings up 49 results. No matter where they were born or where they were in 1871, potentially any one of them could be the man who died in 1877.

then by the 1881 census his wife (still living in the same place) is listed as a widow.

So he died between 1871 and 1881, Hartleyburn came within Haltwhistle civil registration district

Halton lea Gate is very close to Knaresdale (or Knarsdale?)
If we had access to the parish registers we could see the abode on the burials, but we haven't!

So when did Eleanor Armstrong die? Having two of them, and both married to Johns, doesn't help. Because the other one is also a widow in 1881, living in Haltwhistle. Still has her daughter Rebecca with her. Perhaps she is slightly older than "our" one.
It also means that the other John could be the one buried at Haltwhistle in 1873

Our Eleanor is still alive and at Halton Lea Gate, Hartleyburn, in the 1891 census.
Age 74
And her grandchildren are with her.

So she can't be the Eleanor buried in Haltwhistle in 1881!
But it looks quite likely she could be the Eleanor Armstrong buried at Knaresdale in 1893, age 76.
Unless she is still around in the 1901 census!

On that basis the 1877 death/burial for John now looks more likely?

I am hoping to go to our local FHC next week, if its open I can have a look and see if the burial records give any further info.

I did get to the FHC this week, unfortunately there was a problem with the computers and the sole volunteer who 'knows about computers' wasn't there.

Sorry I wasn't able to check the registers for you, I'll keep this on my list but its going to be at least a month before I can get there again.
