I found this record of deaths for the ship. Could the surname of Poole be a mispelling of Poore?
Ashley ... your reply No. 8
Not able to pick up and copy the "cropped" link you posted there re: TINDALL and POORE ... but do want to comment on it.
I see it's copied from FindMyPast (Deaths of Passengers at Sea) ... but
it's only part of the list of deaths on the 1864 voyage to NZ of the "British Empire" .
[ In cropping the image, there are two other passengers you've omitted from that list - namely Richard Clark PEPPERILL (d. 31/8/64) and Mrs Shipp ?? or FISHER d. of old age on 2/9/64 : Presumably you have already sorted these out.
]So, the record for POORE only describes an infant of unknown sex : The
child of M.A. POORE (spr -- which translates as "spinster") -- died 6 September 1864. (Have added this info to your new thread of today).
TINDALL - John - 47 years of Scarboro [Yorkshire] [You can find him possibly on UK census 1841 with father - haven't looked further ].
I would accept these records from FindMyPast as being "official" death entries - with the information provided by the captain or other person of ship "British Empire". Remember that we cannot always find records for these emigrant ships which give any great detail of those passengers aboard who had paid their own way to NZ. [i.e. Saloon / first / 2nd class or whatever. ] The passenger lists we are lucky enough to have access to, focus on passengers who were part of the immigration schemes set in place by the provincial governments of the day.
* Can I ask you please, to in future, quote the sources of information such as this.
It just wastes so much searching time having to re-check or locate these unnamed references.
