Hi Chris

Daniel HEGARTY

A Daniel HEGARTY
arrived on the ship "Otaki" into Auckland on or about 4 November 1877.
His age was given as 21 years (so bc  1856).
His native place  =  Co. Kerry, IRE.    and he was coupled on the passenger list (usually indicates "travelling together with") with a man named Richard WILLIAMS aged 26 years and also of Kerry.    Both had occupations of "general labourers" :

I suspect because of the fact this particular Daniel HEGARTY was headed for Auckland ... and had a near similar birth year to the man commemorated at the O'SULLIVAN burial site,  (died 28 September 1923) that they are one and the same person ?

NOTE:    To avoid confusion  ----
Have to add that another man named Daniel HEGARTY (and of same age) also died in 1923 - although at Christchurch (South Island) on or about 22 October 1923

Daniel HEGARTY

This is a rather hard-to-read copy of the Auckland death on 28 September 1923.

I haven't time at present to search further for more info on this man ... (will try again later).

Yes Daniel Hegarty is another potential link.  He was the son of Jeremiah Hegarty.  This is another reason why I am interested in Mortimer & Catherine.  There is a definite link between Mortimer & Daniel Hegarty and if I can prove Mortimer was connected to my Sullivans, it will help in tying in another family branch and consolidate the tree.  The Kilgarvan births & marriages have numerous examples of Sullivan, Hegarty witnesses and sponsors.

Hi Lucy
Daniel Hegarty's cause of death was new information, so thank you very much.  His funeral left the home of Mrs C O'Sullivan (Mortimer's widow Catherine), of 2 Gladstone St, Mt Albert several days after his death and he is buried in an adjacent plot to Mortimer.  I could not locate any evidence that he married and had a family.
Many thanks
Chris

Hi there
I can't thank you enough for the link to Daniel Hegarty's Will on Family Search.  It confirms that he didn't marry.   All the O/Sullivan names referred to in the Will are children of Mortimer & Catherine.  However, what was interesting was the US connection to his brother Patrick....something to definitely follow up.
Thanks
Chris
