As is often (usually?) the case in Scotland, the marriage ceremony took place at what looks to be a private house - I think it's 52 Norman Street, Glasgow, though some bits are clearer than others. It might be the home of one of the parties, or perhaps the minister.

Below that is:

After Publication
according to the
Forms of the
Church of Scotland

So you're not actually looking for a church, though the minister's name should help you find which one he was attached to if that's what you want to know.

There is still a Norman a street in a glasgow, though I don’t know if it’s the same one, and it appears to be undergoing some “works” judging by google maps.

Do either the bride or groom give their address as 52 Norman Street?

At that time periodthe most common places for a Presbyterian marriage were still the brides own home or the ministers home - it was rare for a presbyterian marriage to take place within the Church building itself.. It was a decade or so later that Church marriages (in Presbyterian Churches) became more common

Thanks all for your input, it is indeed the groom's home. I wasnt aware marraiges took place at home during this time period. I'm still curious what specific church they belonged to so will have to decypher and look into the minister :)

There are two brief references to Robert Howie in Fasti Ecclesiae Scoticanae, the standard reference work for Church of Scotland ministers. He's in Volume 9, pages 291 (at Rockcliffe) and 613 (at the parish he moved on to afterwards), which can be found at

When you are having trouble deciphering a document from Scotland's People, report it to them using the 'Report Error' button above the image, and they will send you a re-scanned image.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
