John Quick at 45 Hands Street, Litherland on the 1921 census
« on: Wednesday 12 April 23 00:10 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I have posted here before and had brilliant help in regard of a John Quick aged 4yrs? and his brother Thomas 1yr?

They were living at 45 Hands Street, Litherland with a family called Lloyd

Alfred Lloyd
Annie Lloyd

I would like to know if there is any mention of them being related in any way?

Their mother Letitia Quick died in 1921 and is buried at Ford Cemetery.  Their father left the family in 1920 and moved to Canada.

So Alfred and Annie Lloyd took over their care.  But are they related?

Any help I would so appreciate.

Many thanks,
Pauline

You would probably need to make up a family tree for the Quicks and the Lloyds to see if they connect in any way.

What was the name of the father who went to Canada?

Have you bought credits & looked at the original entry to see if any relationship is shown?  The 1921 is only available on FindMyPast via credits or an upgraded subscription

Parents were Letitia Mary Kirby & Thomas Ellis Quick who married 31.3.1917 St Leonards Bootle.  Her father was Charles Kirby occ labourer

NOTE -- One of their witnesses was Winifred Mary Lloyd ??

Births on freebmd for 2 Letitia Mary Kirby's

1890 mmn Parry
1893 mmn Houghton

The 1921 death is just Letitia & she was aged 26 which gives a birthyear around 1895

You really need to view the original 1921 entry to establish the birthyear & birthplace of the Lloyds plus any other family members

She could be the 1901 entry Celia Kirby aged 8 parents Charles & Elizabeth nee Houghton.  The 1893 birth was registered in the Gt Crosby sub district - mmn Houghton

1911 possibility in Herefordshire in a Convent - Letitia Quick was buried in Ford Cemetary & her address was 107 Rice Lane with was one of the Liverpool Workhouses - later Walton Hospital

Hi Ruskie and CaroleW,

Ruskie - name of father who went to Canada a Thomas Ellis Quick / John Quick.  He changed his name a few times in different situations ??? ???

He jumped ship as a merchant seaman in Canada in 1920.  When he left another ship in Montreal, Canada 1925 - 1926.  He said his name was John Quick and was born in Canada.  He really is a strange character  :-\ :-\

CaroleW - I did try and buy credits the amount was £3.50 ( I think ) but my cursor would not access the button, the page would not move any further.  I did not want a subscription quite exspensive!!

Celia is mentioned in the 1901 aged 8 yrs with her parents Charles Kirby and Elizabeth Houghton.  I have their marriage certificate.

So Letitia was mistranscribed in the 1901 census as Celia but at least I have that information. ;D

So back to looking for John Quick!!

Many thanks for any help or advice.

Regards,
Pauline.

John Quick age 3 was with the LLoyd family 1921 but Thomas wasn't he was in the workhouse.

The Thomas with the LLoyd's in 1921 is their own son.

Alfred Lloyd says he was born 1882 in Seaforth Lancashire

Look at the 1891 census of Waterloo Great Crosby Lancashire
Rosanna Kirby 64 Lodger
Thomas Lloyd 28
Mary Lloyd 27

several other children plus ALFRED LLOYD age 9 born 1882

1901
There is a sister Winifred age 3 (mothers maiden name McKnight) could be the witness the marriage of Thomas Quick to Letitia Kirby.

It will take a little time to sort them all out, but the families seemed to know each other.

Hi,

amondg - very interesting to find out that on the 1921 Thomas was in the workhouse with his mother Letitia.  I did not know this.

i have the marriage certificate of Rosanna and Robert in 1853 - they were my ggggrandparents

Like you say there is a Winifred Mary Lloyd as a witness to the marriage of Letitia Kirby and Thomas Quick

CaroleW - This is my ggggrandparents on the 1861 and 1891 census

Thank you for all of your invaluable help.  I just need to connect the Lloyd / Kirby / Quick families together  ;D
