Hello and thank you for the offer to do look ups.

I'm trying to find 3 people: Edwin Fletcher Foster from Halifax, England, aged about 36, who arrived at Ellis Island 17 May 1911 and went to 171 Linden St, Yonkers, NY.  Two years later his wife, Mary Ann Foster, aged 36 and their son, Harry Fletcher Foster, age 13 joined him.

If you could have a look at the 1920 census to see if you can find them I'd be most grateful.

Thanks

Hi Lindy

1920 US Census,
Roll T625_1280
ED 251
Sheet 7A
New York, Westchester County, Yonkers City, Ward 7

FOSTER
Edwin F, Head, Male, White, 43, married, arrived in USA 1911, PA, born England, both parents born England. Occupation: Moulder in Iron Foundry.

Mary A., wife, female, white, 42, married, arrived in USA 1911, PA, born England, both parents born England.
Occupation: Operator in Worsted Factory.

Young Harry is not in the home with them, and I have not found any listings that match his details (YET).

PA...I understand this to mean that a naturalization application is pending.

Regards,
Valerie

Wow!  Thank you Valerie for such a prompt response - much appreciated.  I think these must be the people I'm looking for, though Mary Ann's date of arrival is two years earlier than shown on the Ellis Island manifest.

Was their address shown on the census listing?

Hello again.  Can I request more look ups please?  Not sure if it will be possible however as I don't have any addresses to go on.

I'm trying to find James and Clara Dutton from Halifax in Yorkshire, England.  They may have emigrated to the US, but it's only guesswork as to when.  They disappear from UK records after the 1901 census when they were aged 26 and 29 respectively, but the Ellis Island site shows nothing relevant.

Also, if there are any records - from any census - showing the surname McDanielson I'd be grateful to know of them.

In particular, I've found a reference in the Galveston County births index 1938 to one Royston James McDanielson who is listed as the father of Elizabeth Frances McDanielson.  His wife is shown as Elizabeth Garrigan.  The Ellis Island site has no McDanielsons recorded so I assume Royston was an American citizen.

Many thanks for your time
Lindyboo

Hi Lindy

Edwin and Mary Foster were living at 147 Linden Street (from previous post).

1930 US census, Texas, Galveston, Galveston
Roll 2335, ED 17

McDANIELSON
Royston James, Head, M, W, married age 29, born in England, came to USA in 1909, is Naturalized, occupation is Wharf Longshoreman.

Elba, Wife, F, W, married age 17, born in Italy, came to USA in 1909, is Naturalized.  No occupation

VALERIANI, Leda, daughter, F, W, 17, single, born Texas, occupation: insurance file clerk

VALERIANI, Gabriel, son, M, W, 11, single, born Texas, no occupation.

Street Address is 154 31st Street.

If the family came directly to Texas, it would not show up on the Ellis Island records.

So I took a look at 1920.....

1920 US Census
Texas, Galveston, Galveston
Roll T625_1806, Page 11B, ED 46

McDANIELSON
James, Head, M, W, 34, married, b England, both parents born England, occupation: Ship Carpenter.

Lina, Wife, F, W, 40, married, b Alabama, both parents born Alabama

LOGSTONE, Ben, Brother in law, 53??, single, born Alabama, both parents born Alabama, occupation: Wharf Laborer.

and he also shows up:

Texas, Galveston, Galveston
Fort San Jacinto
T625_1805, Page 1B, ED 169

McDANIELSON, James, married, 34, b England, to USA in 1909, naturalized in 1919.  Occupation: Soldier

Interesting, eh?

There are a couple of other McDanielsons that show up on the census search, none born England.

Regards,
Valerie

Valerie - thank you so much!  You've come up trumps I think.  The census findings sound very promising and might help to fill in some of the odd gaps we have around that period.

Thanks once more - so helpful.

Kind regards
Lindy

Hello Valerie

I've been doing some headscratching re the McDanielsons you found on the 1920/30 census records.

You found that James McDanielson appears twice on the 1920.  What do you think might be the likely reason for that?  I'm afraid I've no experience of US census records so I don't know if such entries would have been common.

Could I trouble you for another look up please?  If possible, could you have a look at the 1910 census and see if James and/or Royston appear on that one?

Finally, did you have any luck finding James and Clara Dutton (my posting of Friday 22nd Oct refers)?

Thanks again

Lindy
