Hi Valerie,
Thank you for your help. The Albert Bower that you mention on the Ellis Island site for 1921 may be the one I am looking for, if a ships cook then may not have emigrated to USA and therefore possibly not the Bowyer you subsequently found on the 1830 census.
I will look at both these optionse, I appreciate these leads.
Many thanks
Colin

Hi, I am still trying to find Thomas Naylor Lucas in the 1860 and possibly 1850 census. T N Lucas appears in 1870 &1880 census in Stateburg South Carolina (Thomas was a minister in the Episcopal Church) with his wife Sarah.

Thomas was born Charleston SC in 1816, Sarah born 1817 England. Incidentally I have found Thomas at some Episcopal Church conventions 1861-1864, possibly living North Carolina in 1861. Thomas & Sarah appear in the 1841 census in Melbourne Australia and may not have been in USA at time of 1850 and 1860 - but were there in 1861. (The period 1841-1861 is a blank).

Incidentally Sarah died 1884 and Rev Thomas N Lucas died 1886, both in South Carolina.

Any information that fills the gap 1841 - 1861 (1850 & 1860 census?)  greatly appreciated.

Colin (England)

Hi Joanna

I'm not finding Agnes indexed on the 1910 census, as it is done by Head of Household.

However, on the 1920 it shows as follows:

1920 US Census
Massachusetts, Suffolk County, Boston
Precinct 6 Dorchester.
ED 443, Page 1B
3 January, 1920
Living at 22 Powell Street

O'CALLAHAN
Frank, Head, Male, White, 34, b MA, fa b Ireland, mo b Massachusetts.  Occupation: Shipper in Shipping Office

Agnes, Wife, female, white, 30, b Ireland, parents born Ireland.  To USA 1906, naturalized in 1911.  No occupation

Frank, son, male, white,2.5/12, b MA, fa b MA, mo b Ireland

This site should help you with naturalization records.
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/rg/guide/Massachusetts11.asp

I suspect both Agnes and Ellen arrived in Boston not New York and I'm not sure where one would find details of their passage.  Most on line is from earlier dates.

Regards,
Valerie

Hi Joanna

1920 US census
Massachusetts, Middlesex County, Medford City
ED 314 Sheet(s) 2a and 2b

ELLIS
Edward F., Head, male, white, 39, married, born MA, both parents born MA.  Occupaton: Laborer, Street Department

Mary E., Wife, female, white, 39, married, born Ireland, both parents born Ireland.  To USA 1894, naturalized in 1901.  No occupation.

If you follow the link I gave you in the message about Agnes, you could order also Mary Ellens naturalization records.

Quite often they include ship arrivals, etc.
Apart from that, I have no way of finding "their" arrivals.

Best regards,
Valerie, aka Grub
