WW1 Soldiers Death
« on: Thursday 09 March 23 11:40 GMT (UK) »
Hello, can anyone decipher the following please - I'm not sure why the dates have 16/1 and 19/3 - nor do I understand the army shorthand!  Many thanks, Selby

His unclaimed Army Pay Owing of 13 Shillings and 2 Pence -  was paid 5 October 1916 to his Widow Maggie J Vickers
Then a War Gratuity of £6:10 Shillings was paid to her also on 29 October 1919

S/8700  L/Cpl. John McPherson 2/Gordon Highlanders 24/7/16.
FYI you can work out when he joined by the amount of
Gratuity his widow received:
Pte's. & L/Cpl's = £5 for 1st. year + 10s. per month thereafter.
So Mar./April 1915.
