Where is this naval photo and any thoughts on where and when

The photo is of my uncle and his brother on a navy ship. That is the UK Royal Navy.
my uncle did his national service post WW2 from approx. 1947
Can anyone confirm details of the ship and the location?
It looks very Mediterranean to me.
Is my date 1947-48 consistent with detail in photo?

Hi,

Would say that the background is almost certainly Malta.  If you get the photograph enhanced it may be possibly to get the ships name from the cap tally. Sorry can't be of more help.

The bow of the tally is supposed to be worn over the left ear. Since these lads have chosen a rather jaunty angle for their caps, I don't think the name of the ship would have been that visible however good the photograph.

I agree, part of the hatband is obscured. As shown in Japeflakes lightened version.
