Good Morning
Well done ,you have done well!
Smashed it.

I agree with you but perhaps I can add a few details or possibilities.

Thomas and Jane Dodd married before 1729
There is a marriage licence applied for 31st Dec 1728
Adshead of Waverton  and Dod of Gusdon?

Could that be them? No first names and I can't find their marriage

There is a Will for a Mary Dodd of Bidston widow 1820.
To granddaughter Pheobe Dodd who resides with me all my stock, chattels ,estate and households goods
And my granddaughter Charlotte and Mary Pemberton to reside with her until they can make arrangements for themselves.
Exe Pheobe Dodd and John Radley
She died 21 June 1820 Probate 28th Made 23rd March
Her burial says she was 92 so born 1728

The Pemberton girls were born 1806 and 1807 daughters of Samuel and Mary Pemberton nee Dodd married Liverpool St Peter 26 June 1805.
Looks like Mary Dodd  daughter of Thomas and Mary born c1780 . or 1775
Pheobe  Mary's  daughter bapt 28 June 1794

The original is on Familysearch.

Sorry I haven't got more

Hi,

Looks like you’ve been busy too!
I’m going to take a look at family search at the weekend.

I do have another couple of bits for you. The first mention of the Dod name in the area I have found so far was in a book The history of the old parish of Bidston, which I found online at hslc.org.uk

In it I found the following:

20th August 1601. George Bate of Poole Yeoman. Land in Moreton transferred to John Dod of Egerton Yeoman.

I believe the Dods of Egerton may be somehow related to the Dods of Edge, who seem to have been some kind of landed gentry(not looked at this family)

The same book also has:

1604
The Davieses granted 2 Messuages and 60 ac in Moreton to Thomas Dod and John Lea

There is also a mention of William Dod tenant of Lord Kingston in there. And a James Dod Yeoman in 1777 being deforciant to a fine.

I wonder if these were the 1st Dods in Moreton? One possibility is that John Dod of Egerton moved family into the area ? This would take a lot of research to prove either way I think.

I think we can fairly confidently say that William born 1638 (possibly died 1668) belongs to our line.

Could the possible father of William b1638 John or William (Gulielmus) be of Egerton?

The population of Moreton in 1665 was 165 by the way.

I think there is more to be discovered!!

Latest update:

Looking at the Cheshire Parish record project database, I have figured out the following:

Thomas Dodd & Mary Evans married 1757

They had 3 sons named Thomas
Born 1758,1765 &1768.The earlier 2 must have died.

Thomas Dodd and Mary Williamson married 1774

This means Thomas, the son of Thomas and Mary Evans could not possibly marry Mary Williamson. He was only six years old in 1774.

This Thomas is likely to have been son of Edward, who was born 1754. This Edward was twin brother of Thomas who married Mary Evans.

Of course, this means all children born before 1774 belong to Thomas and Mary Evans.However. Those born 1774-1794 could be from either couple. It is probable that the later ones belong to Thomas & Mary Williamson though.

Hope this makes sense. What do you think?

Hi Ciderdrinker,

I’ve looked at your Pembertons and believe the following:

Mary Dodd who died 1820 is Mary Evans.

I think her husband Thomas died in 1791 but the age is a few years out.I haven’t found a single other Thomas Dodd born in the 1720s in Cheshire though.

Mary’s daughter born 1775 belongs to Mary Evans and Thomas Dodd, not Mary Williamson.

Phoebe was Mary b1775 illegitimate daughter.

Mary born 1775 married Samuel Pemberton who was a carter on the marriage.

Thomas Dodd brother or cousin of Mary married Barbara? (Forgot my notes). He was also a carter and lived at 52 and 60 Leeds Street, Liverpool in the 1820s

My direct ancestors Margaret Dodd and John Moore who was also a carter and later cart owner. His son Henry later lived at 55 Leeds Street. Margaret b 1777 would also be sister or cousin.

Thomas and Barbara appear to have returned to the Bidston area and are buried in Bidston churchyard.

John Moore and Margaret lived the rest of their lives in Liverpool but are also buried at Bidston. My brother once visited the graveyard but couldn’t find a grave.Thomas and Barbara’s is there though.

That’s all for today

Hi Garstonite,

Thanks for the praise!! I think there is still a lot to do to figure this family out fully though.
