Moving towards accepting 1841census for Newark,Notts.which shows Robert jnr parents born in Scotland and Robert born Newark 1832.
Parents both born Scotland but possibly married in Notts. Circa 1827?
Unfortunately none of this helps with Mothers maiden name.

Bob, I feel your being somewhat elusive, lots of folk here are more than willing to help. Please do tell us how you have got back to Robert c 1832 and through which lines.

Re the Robert Robison in Newark his mother was Mary McMyn. ( can be established via sibling James). He can be identified in Newark in subsequent censuses and was a tea dealer/grocer. A daughter called Jessie is recorded in the 1881 census- her mother's maiden name was Clark. 1871 wife is showing as Jeanie and in 1881 as Jessie - suspect a second marriage. Both marriages may have been in Scotland.

The Newark Robert was unmarried in 1861. The Dumfries wedding to Jane Beck could not be for him.

Thanks William,you are correct,seems I was barking up the wrong tree for wee while.Pity though because most of the other facts seemed a good fit.
