The Pendle witch trials were held in 1612 so I don't think this is the one.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome I’m so glad I found this site, I’ve got information overload, which is totally brilliant, especially because it’s all useful.

Gadget & Garstonite - This is my Alice Whittaker Nutter - Whittaker being her maiden name.
Born: 1540 • Roughlee Newchurch Pendle Lancashire, England
Death:20 AUG 1612 • Lancaster Castle, Lancaster, Lancashire, England

Mother: Elizabeth Nowell - 1504 • Lancashire, England
Father Gyles Whittaker - 1500 • Huncoat, Lancashire, England

Husband: Richard Nutter
Born: 1537 • Roughlee Newchurch Pendle Lancashire, England
Death: 1584 • Roughlee, Newchurch, Pendle, Lancashire, England

She is actually my 13th Great Grandmother not my 11th as I said before.

I still have a lot to learn about this lady but our family tales say she wasn’t a witch at all but a staunch Catholic who was at the wrong place at the wrong time and kept quiet in case she gave away her fellow catholics to the authorities, catholicism was banned at the time I believe. Other tales I’ve read suggest she wasn’t quite sound of mind and therefore had no clue what was happening to her, not sure how true that is though.

Witches we’re treated appallingly back in those days, often being tortured night and day for days on end until they had no clue what they were saying and often admitting that they were a witch just to make the pain stop.

Thank you for the link Gadget, I’m off to take a look now  :)
