Possibly his parents leaving Bangalow and moving to Byron Bay in 1939. "Jack" BAKER had been an active member of the School P&C.

Also this item from 1934 which mentions E. BAKER and R. BAKER as taking part in a concert at Bangalow Cof E Sunday School. If they were Cof E, unlikely to have attended "St Joseph's School, Bangalow".

Just a note on this news clip about the C of E Sunday School Concert.
E. BAKER is likely Enid Elsie, the sister of Roy. So certainly in the right place but.....were they schooled there ???

I have not seen the birth of Lionel BAKER to John and Rebecca Elizabeth, though there was an infant death for a boy of Rebecca's before her marriage.

I was not aware of a Lionel Baker as a brother of Roy Baker. His mother's name was Rebecca Elizabeth  so t is a definite possibility and I'll be looking into that. She did have a son in 1912 (out of wedlock) that died.
I doubt very much that it was Roy in 1933 and 1934 in the school concert and the Sunday school concert as he would have been 16/17 years old then and no longer going to school. They did however at some time live in Byron Bay also.

I found these last night but still need to do further research. Not that I'm complaining.  ;)

I doubt very much that it was Roy in 1933 and 1934 in the school concert and the Sunday school concert as he would have been 16/17 years old then and no longer going to school.

As per my reply, Lionel was the brother reported as appearing at the school concert in 1933, as he would have been around 11 at the time that sounds right. I agree that Roy may be little old to be the R. BAKER in the Sunday School concert in 1934, not impossible though as "Sunday School" could include high school aged children. However it mentions E. BAKER as a senior girl, so presumably Enid aged around 15.

It's beginning to look like "John (Jack) Baker" and John Baker are two different people. In fact there are more than a couple of John Baker's living in Byron Bay and Bangalow. I notice on the electoral records that Roy Howard was living with John and Rebecca Baker. I don't think that Lionel was his brother.
