....but I'm really trying to find his Military Service Record as I'm assuming he had one
Over 60% of WW1 service records were burnt during the WW2 blitz. Those that survived are on Ancestry or FindMyPast or other subscription sites.
The Quote is Not full
The Storeroom at Arnside Street Blitzed 7/8 September 1940
Held Only WW1 Soldiers that Died in WW1
Or having served but were Demobbed up to 7 August 1920
Or attempted to Serve and Refused entry as Unfit
If John had stayed on the Army after August 1920 like my Granddad served from 1908 to after August 1920
When those Soldiers who had served in WW1 but stayed on till they left.
Their Military Records were sent to a New Storeroom of Army Records in Hayes that where the Storeroom was never Blitzed nor scanned by Ancestry or Findmypast.
Those in that New Storeroom were sent to Present Glasgow where they are currently held awaiting transfer over the coming years to The National Archives Kew But you have to Pay and there is a 2 year backlog
