Burials, St. Thomas, Ardwick
« on: Monday 09 January 23 20:35 GMT (UK) »
Have located a burial for John Blakeley, Jan 24, 1851 in the above cemetery.  He is buried with a young girl, Caroline Snow, Apr 15 1817.
Although they appear to have nothing in common, John married a Mary Snow, Dec 21, 1828 in Prestwich.  Mary Snow was baptized June 5 1808 at St. Chad, Cheetham Hill, parents George and Ann or Nancy (Brown) Snow.  As far as I can tell George and Ann had their first child in 1790 and regularly at 3 or 4 years apart.  Mary was the last born in 1809, is it probable that Caroline Snow born about 1813 was another child in that family that John Blakeley was interred in the same plot?  Caroline's abode was listed as Swarsbrook St. on the burial transcription.  Have been unable to find anything related to that as well.

Any suggestions on where I can find information or burial protocols for the time period?  Thanks.

There is a Catherine Snow baptised 1813 to Joseph and Jane Snow.

I have seen Catherine and Caroline interchanged in records.

There are other baptisms to this couple John, 1814 and Jane in 1817.
Jane was baptised at St Thomas, Ardwick.

Burials St Thomas, Ardwick - same parent names
George 1812
John 1816
Caroline 1817
Plus
Jane, 32 yrs in May 1817

Thank you Heywood.  I didn't know that Catherine and Caroline might be interchangeable.

It is entirely possible that that the baptism dates I found were late. Noted the burial entry below John Blakeley and Caroline Snow.  Joseph Snow, wife Jane, son Peter (died) 1807, George 1812, John 1816. Think we must be looking at the same document. I do have a brother, Joseph, to Mary Snow but he was baptized about 1797 in Manchester, I think.  That would have made him about 10 when this Peter died so i dismissed it as a Snow family I am researching.  Also the fact that earlier born children were buried with parents but Caroline was buried alone beside this grave, seemed unlikely.

I have no doubt they are probably related in some way, but cannot figure out how.  The lack of parents names on church marriage registrations makes it difficult as well.

Thank you your time and consideration

ColC,

Thanks for your suggestion.  Mary Snow married John Blakeley and after his death married Dennis Irlam.  She died in 1889, Barton Upon Irwell.  Fortunately she was easy to trace.

Thank for taking the time to look.
