Scott Mckee born 1792/1794 Annahilt 27th Regiment of Foot
« on: Saturday 07 January 23 09:13 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for information on Scott McKee’s family. I know he was discharged from the army in March 1815, after an injury in battle which saw him lose his leg. I think this might have been at the battle of Plattsburgh but I’m not sure.
I also know he married Phoebe Green in London, UK. I can’t find any details on Scott’s birth or who is parents/siblings were. I have lots of information when he was living in London but I’m after info on his childhood and also army life. He was born in 1792 or 1794 in Annahilt, co. Down.  Can anyone give me any advice? Thanks so much.

Hi, here's what I know. I have been researching my 3rd great grandmother Sarah Anne McKee; BIRTH 1797 • County Antrim, Northern Ireland; DEATH 1872 • Lurganteneil Townland, Co. Antrim. However, I believe her father is one William McKee from Cumber Townland, County Down which is a stone's throw from Annahilt. Also, his wife was Anne McCann which is the surname of another ancestor - so that points to another possible connection to my Sarah. The McCanns were from Armagh. Further William served in the British Army also, in the 7th Dragoon Guards (Calvary 1793) a highly mobile unit. Sons often follow fathers into the military when their time comes. Scott could be Sarah's brother. Griffith Valuation shows McKee's in Northern Ireland and in Down and of them William seemed the likeliest candidate for being Sarah's father based on a note re her wedding as to who her parents were. I think he got to Antrim the same way Scott got to England - that's where they got discharged or separated from the service. All conjecture at this point but thought I'd share what I've found. Sarah married an Antrim fellow and several descendants still live in the area (Portmore Townland, Ballinderry, Antrim). My line wound up in Upstate New York. Maybe this info will be a clue for you.

Hi. I’m sorry, I never saw your reply. Great info and I wonder if they are related. They are not siblings though as I now know Scott’s parents were James McKee and Elizabeth Young. I e done my DNA now so I managed to link a few ‘cousins’ to the McKees.
Thanks

A James McKee married an Elizabeth Young in 1793 at Boardmills Presbyterian Church. Daughter Margaret born 1798 and baptised there in 1798.
This may, or may not, be the same James McKee-
"son of John McKee of Price's Arms Hotel; married Betty Young c. 1790 ; active in United Irishmen Rebellion; helped build 2nd Presbyterian Church Saintfield; father of Thomas Walker McKee; left for USA in 1812"
Other possible references here-

Note: there were possibly several James McKees in Killaney Parish around the same time.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Annahilt Church of Ireland registers were lost, destroyed 1922 in Dublin, apart from Annahilt Presbyterian Church registers for the other presbyterian churches in the parish start later in the 1800's.

Hi
Not my research do don't know how accurate it is but their is a Pughe family tree on Ancestry which had DNA connections so should have some basis of proof.

It says Scott has a brother William John Mckee born c 1797 married at Broadmills 24.1.1842 to an Eliza Curry .DNA connections to descendants of both men.

Parents are that James McKee and Elizabeth Young who married in1773 as previously mentioned.
Other siblings
Charles 1790,Agnes 8.2.1793 DNA march ,Elizabeth bapt 11.6.1795 ,Margaret 28.2.1798 and a sister Anne.

I've checked the marriages and baptisms and they are correct.

Elizabeth Young is given as bapt 9.9.1759 Stevenson Ayr , Parents James Young 1736-1815 and Jane Lochigg 1740-1800 .The latter again has a DNA match.

It's a specialist area because many of the records have been destroyed .You may want to contact the owner of the family tree.

Thanks. Yes, the tree on Ancestry is mine. I have managed to unravel some DNA links to the McKees.
