Dorset Family History Society’s Online Zoom Monthly Meeting
« on: Monday 02 January 23 20:38 GMT (UK) »
Dorset Family History Society is hosting an on-line Zoom talk on Tuesday 18th April 2023 from 7.30p.m. - 9.15p.m. (approx.)

ON-LINE SPEAKER is JANET FEW with a talk entitled ‘FORGOTTEN WOMEN - MARGINALISED WOMEN ON YOUR FAMILY TREE’.

Even without meaning to, family historians often focus on the men in their family tree. It is usually the men who carry on the surname, the  men who joined the armed forces and who are more likely to leave wills, vote or rent property, thereby leaving a trail in the documentary record. By virtue of her gender, a female ancestress can be overlooked. Janet uses a series of case studies to describe  researching women who spent time in workhouses or asylums, the mothers  of illegitimate children, prostitutes and those accused of witchcraft!  Janet also describes the sources she uses.

Dorset FHS welcomes back Janet Few, the ‘History Interpreter’, Chairman of Devon FHS and honorary Vice President of the Isle of Wight FHS and a long standing member of the Guild of One Name Studies. Researching her own  family history and involved in teaching, writing, speaking and helping  others over many years.

Zoom sign-in from 7.15 pm (UK time).

Society Members who have consented to receive information by e-mail will find a meeting invitation link, and how to donate the voluntary £3 admission, in the E-News sent about 4 days before the meeting.

Those who do not receive E-News, or who are not Society Members, are welcome to join this meeting and should access the talk by emailing liaison@dorsetfhs.org.uk from the week before. An invitation will be sent out with sign in details of how to sign in to Zoom from 7.15pm on the night for a 7.30pm start.

The Society would welcome a  contribution of £3 towards the cost via our website.  Thank you.
