Annotation on 1919 Birth Cert "Adopted"
« on: Thursday 22 December 22 18:49 GMT (UK) »
I have a 1919 Birth certificate where in the margin the Registrar has written " Adopted" and added his signature. The birth was registered by the Mother nine days after the child was born. My question is, in 1919 , did the phrase "Adopted" have the same meaning as today? If so, it might solve another puzzle from the 1921 Census. Thanks again.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

The child although born in 1919, they could not be formally adopted until 1930 or later.

Many thanks for your reply. I have been trawling the 1921 census for both names but too many permutations. The cremation record in 2000 shows both surnames so I'll plod on.
