This old man is believed to be Edward Rowles, Chimney Sweep. He was married to Esther (nee Cooper). They had a son called Welcome Edwin (known to the family as Edward), driving the motorbike.
I believe this man served in WW1 with the Nottingham & Derbyshire Regiment, No. 5383 & 203552.
On 21st March 1918 he was posted ‘Missing’.
Also on 21st March 1918 he was reported to be a ‘Prisoner of War’.
He is listed as being imprisoned in Altdamm Prison Camp.
This camp was on the banks of the ‘Oder’, which today is in Poland.
He gives his father as his next-of-kin living at 1 Fox Lane, Chertsey.
In the ‘1939 Register’ he is living at ‘The Nest’, Green Road, Egham, Surrey.
His occupation is given as ‘Incapacitated’.
He died in 1959 at Surrey N.W., age 72.
