The muster rolls for February 1814 and September 1816 (online on Ancestry) list only one John Gilbert in 14th Foot: he was in 3rd Battalion initially and had transferred to 2nd Battalion by September 1816.
He would actually have been transferred to the 2nd battalion prior to 17 Feb 1816 because on that date the 3rd battalion was disbanded. See page 78 Cannon, Richard (1845). Historical Record of the Fourteenth, or, the Buckinghamshire Regiment of Foot. London: Parker, Furnivall, and Parker.

Have been looking into this again…
I’m struggling to find a marriage between John Gilbert and Elizabeth. There’s nothing in Sussex (which is where they baptised their daughter in 1816 in Chichester whilst he was stationed at the barracks there).

Hi, I have a John Gilbert on my Waterloo Medal Roll.   Born in Wantage, Berkshire on 8th Feb 1791.  He enlisted in the 14th Foot on 2nd Dec 1813, aged 20.  After Waterloo, Gilbert was stationed in St. Maura ( the Greek islands ) from Sept 1816 and was discharged on 23rd Dec 1817.
His Waterloo Medal was sold at 'Pace - Antiques collectables, of Indianapolis, U.S.A. in Dec 2020.

Hi, thank you for the info. I have done a bit of research into his history as a soldier (see attached), but didn’t quite get as far as his time in Greece, so thank you.
I’m still trying to establish if this is the actual John Gilbert I am looking for. Maria Gilbert was my 5th Great Grandmother, and finding concrete evidence of her birth and parents is proving to be difficult.
