Hi all, I have a 3rd gr aunt Elisabeth Salmond 1818-1885 who married William Orr (b abt 1815 in Kilmalcolm, Renfrewshire) in 1844in Kilbarchan, Renfrew. I lately have a lot of DNA matches with Orr in their tree, Tennant and Vallance and Orr seems to be the link. One of my gr Uncles had Órr'as his middle name. I would like to try to build out my William Orr to see if any other branches actually somehow become into my direct line but am having trouble trying to find who William's parents are. I believe he was still alive in 1901 as he is father in law to Robert Cross who married William's daughter Elizabeth Orr. They are living in Cadder in 1901. Each of the 51, 61, 71, 81 91 and 1901 census give Williams birthplace as Renfrewshire around 1815. I have searched Scotlandspeople for deaths between 1901 and 1920 and there are 4. The Cadder one looks promising in 1910 - mother's maiden name McKendrick, however I cannot find any births for a William to that mother. The other three possibilities are 1910 Corstophine, mother;s maiden name Bishop, 1903 mother's maiden name Clouston and 1902, Ayr, mother;s maiden name Morrison. None of these names appear as birth mothers in a Scotlandspeople search from 1800 - 1820 in Renfrew, nor outside the area. Has anyone got any ideas on this? Grateful for any advice.
