Catherine Ringrose?
« on: Sunday 04 December 22 03:21 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone :)

I'm trying to decipher the surname of the second passenger on this ship's manifest (below Louisa Stamp). The newspaper of the day printed her name as Catherine Ringrose, but I can't seem to find any mention of this name in the Western Australian records after arriving on this ship (the Minero) from London in 1884.

For the record, Louisa Stamp was my 2x G Grandmother, but I'm trying to research her shipmates in an effort to find out more about her.

Cheers,
Rob.

Welcome to Rootschat  :D

Can you tell us a bit more about Louisa?  Do you know when and where she was born?

I cannot find any Louisa Stamp travelling to Australia from the UK in 1884.  She was presumably a married woman at the time, do you know her husband's name or the names of any of her children?

The ship name Minero does not appear, the closest is Minerva.  Is the ship name correct?

Hi Girl Guide :)

Yes, the Minero left London 08 Apr 1884 and arrived Fremantle 01 Jul 1884. Louisa was single at the time, emigrating to Australia through a Crown Agent called Felgate & Co. I've been trying to find any Felgate records that might still exist, but no luck so far. We have plenty of records of her once she arrived in Australia, but nothing conclusive on the UK end. She was born in London sometime between 1861 and 1869, according to her Australian children's birth certs. We believe this is her entry in the 1871 England census:

Why do our ancestors like to hide themselves from us?  :D

Cheers,
Rob.

Your image is from Ancestry Western Australia Passengers

....Minero.....1884.....

open any name....go to page 44 of 90.

Can you please list all the information on the  the marriage certificate

STAMP Catherine  marr.   WILLIAMS   John Anthony   @   Northampton

year of marriage  1884   year of registration 1886    # 6427

Was the marriage registered late?   Why?

Added...no, that is Catherine, not your Louisa....but interesting to see another STAMP in WA.

When and where did your Louisa marry...to whom?

I can't view the Ancestry record.  Is it the same as this one?

1871 Living at Caledonian Crescent, St James Clerkenwell, Holborn, London & Middlesex

Samuel and Louise Nash with children Ellen J, Henry S, Herbert, Louisa and William W.  All children born in Middlesex.

Registration district Holborn
Piece number 391
Folio 8
Page 10

There is a marriage in MQ 1876 Pancras 1b 127 of a John Edmund Stamp to a Louisa Nash.

However further investigation shows it can't be this family as the Louisa born in 1868 is still there in the 1891 census.

Perhaps you can give me details of the 1871 census so that I can find the one you have. Head of household's name, birth year and place of birth should do.

1876 marriage of Louisa Nash and John Edmund Stamp - both have been previously married, both fathers are deceased and no names offered.  And both are deemed to be full age.  :)
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
