Can't find family on 1901 census
« on: Tuesday 29 November 22 21:25 GMT (UK) »
Hello, I was wondering if anyone could help me find either:
Alfred Ernest Walker b.circa 1881 in Kent
Letitia Pitcher b.1879 in Kent
Alfred Ernest Walker b.1900 in Kent
in 1901.

Alfred and Letitia married in 1902 in Kent, but had their son Alfred before that and so he was registered and baptised under the name ''Alfred Ernest Pitcher'', with no father listed. I have them together on the 1911 census and Letitia on the 1891 but not Alfred on the 1891 (if anyone happens to find that that would be great too but don't worry about that one).
Almost 100 percent sure they would be in Kent, but could be in: Sussex, Surrey or London

On Alfred Ernest Pitcher (Walker)'s baptism record it states their abode as ''5 Harry/Henry Court'' from what I can see, but can't find that on a census anywhere. Maybe I read it wrong.

Letitia and Alfred, although lived in houses, were both from romany travelling families and travelled throughout their childhood, so there is a chance they were in tents/caravans at the time or not on the census at all, so if they're un-able to find that's fine  :)
Any help is appreciated, Thanks!

No towns mentioned? Eg which town was the place of baptism?

Sorry, Alfred (b.1900) was baptised in Folkestone, Alfred (b.1881) and Letitia were in Dover on the 1911 census and married in Elham.
(Alfred born in Dartford) (Letitia born in Sandwich)

Does Letitia appear twice on the 1911 census? Once with Alfred Ernest WALKER and family at 6 Mill Lane Dover. There is another Letitia WALKER (32, Sandwich) at 169 West Street, Deal.

William S KENNAIRD  84 (or 34?)  Lee, Kent  (pedlar)
Letitia WALKER            32   Sandwich   (flower seller)
Letitia                              6   Folkestone
Frank                               1   Deal
John PITCHER               34  Sandwich  (hawker flowers)

Thank you that’s really helpful Cathy! I had given up trying to find them on the 1891 census. Yes, that is Judith (Julia) who was Letitia’s mum. Thank you!

Yes she does appear twice, there was a bit of confusion about an affair going on between Letitia and William Kennaird. Hence why she was at two different mens houses at the same time… I think that’s what was going on there as after the 1911 census she stays with William and Alfred Walker goes off with another woman.
Thanks everyone

Thank you lisa, I think that this is probably them,
Letitia often went by ''Letty or Lettie'' and Lillie isn't too far off sound wise, but it definitely looks like lillie rather than lettie on the census..
These are the most reasonable people I've found and I think it's likely it's them so thank you !  :)
