Sennitt of Eastbourne
« on: Tuesday 06 September 05 16:44 BST (UK) »
Is there anybody out there who knows of or has in their family tree any Sennitt living in Eastbourne from30.12.1930 onwards when my relation - Herbert William Sennitt - died pls. His widow E. Sennitt registered the death and she lived at 76 Pevensey Road Eastbourne.  I would like to know who this lady was and whether or not they had any children between them.  He was 63 yrs old when he died., and was a commissionaire.  Also when did she die if anybody out there knows, I have already sent for wrong E. Sennitt certificates altho they are still family.  There are so many E's out there.  Thanx so much.
Regards Margaret.

This was a very old post and you may well have got your answers by now, but in case you haven't, I think Herbert William's wife was actually Annie Ellen Dowsing - possibly known as Ellen.    Annie E Sennett died aged 65 Battersea Dec Q 1941.  This is the only one I can find from 1930 to 1947, but her age isn't quite right for having been born 1871/2 (from 1901 and 1911 censuses).  I did wonder if she might have remarried, but couldn't find that either.  Are you sure that E Sennitt was the wife?  If that was the informant, then it could be Edward, the son, in which case Annie Ellen may have even died before Herbert.

I have four, possibly five children for them.
Alice Beatrice b 1897, Barnet, middlesex
Herbert William M b 1900 Camberwell
Maude Ethel b 1902 Chelsea
Edward George b 1908 West Ham, Essex
There may be a fifth - Joan or Anne, but I didn't record where I got that one from and she isn't on census 1911

pm me if you want more info.

Hi Corrinne
Thanx for message. Annie Ellen was my Nan and she died aged 92 in Stepney and her son Herbert b. 1900 was my Dad.  Her husband (my Grandad) left her with the children for this other woman to live, i think, in Eastbourne. she is the E. Sennitt i am looking for as we dont think my Nan divorced him, just mainly wanna find out if there is a bit of bigamy going on there.................
Thanx Margaret.

I can probably help you quite a lot with eliminating the ones who couldn't be the right E Sennitt.  I have an increasing database, but am also working on reconstructing families, so I should be able to tell you if I have already identified that person as part of another family.

If you want to PM me with a list of who you have tried, and who is still on the list I can narrow it down a bit for you.  I'd also be really interested in scanned copies of any of those certs that aren't yours.  Might help me with other SENNITT/SENNETT research.  Easiest way to get hold of me is via the one-name study.  sennett (at) one-name (dot) org

I did wonder if there was a second marriage under a slightly different name, and one possibility that came up was a Bertie W Sennitt marrying an Ellen, but unless he had children several years after he died that one didn't work out!
