« on: Thursday 17 November 22 15:49 GMT (UK) »
Can someone help, please.  I am looking for Gwladys Maud Jones born 1909 (Merthyr Tydfil district) who I believe was in service in London, possibly Woolwich area in late 1920s, early 1930s.

Thanks

It would depend on the registrar. Gwladys is the Welsh spelling and Gladys is English. If the Registrar was a Welsh speaker, they could have assumed it was spelt the Welsh way.

1921
Gwladys M Jones . 1908 . Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorganshire
This is the only one that fits.

1939 I tried Gladys and Gwladys
Gladys (M) Jones . 1908 . 46 Grant Street, Islington . Finsbury
Gladys M Jones . 1908 . 22 Marlborough Road, Upper Holloway, Islington
Gladys M Jones . 1908 . 58 Meadow Road, South Lambeth, Lambeth

Electoral registers and probate record for this Gwladys has her middle name as Mary. I don't think it's the one.

I apologise John as I did post the following earlier, and send again in the hope it does come through okay.

On 1911 census Gladys Maud Jones aged 2 daughter of Tom & Rachel Jones was living at Brithdir, Glamorgan.
She married widower Horace Alfred Weatherley in Mar Qtr 1932 Merthyr Tydfil distict, Glamorgan

Horace served 21 years in Royal Artillery 1893-1914.  Married Jenny Elizabeth Jones on 16 December 1896 at St Cadoc’s the parish church of Trevethin, Pontypool.  One of the witnesses to the ceremony was Arthur Philip Jones (brother to the bride).
On leaving the army, Horace and Jenny returned to Woolwich and in 1915, they were living at 43 Wellington Street.  The Electoral Registers for 1918, 1919 show they were at 23 Wellington Street, Woolwich.  The registers for 1922, 1923, 1925, records them at 36 Wellington Street, Woolwich.  In 1927, they resided at 86 Wellington Street, Woolwich – at some point they moved back to number 36 where Jenny Weatherley died on 19 March 1929, as per the Index of Wills and Administration.

Electoral Register 1931, 1933, 1934, at 36 Wellington Street Wellington, Woolwich:  Horace Alfred Weatherley & Gladys Maud Weatherley
Electoral Register 1936, 1937, 1938 at 73 Wellington Street, Wellington, Woolwich, Newham: Horace Alfred Weatherley & Gladys Maud Weatherley.

On the 1939 Register, they were living in Brithdir, Gladys Maud’s birthplace. They remained in Brithdir for the rest of their days

I believe Gladys Maud Jones must have been in service in the London area, possibly Woolwich, and would appreciate help locating where she resided 1920/30s prior to marrying widower Horace A Weatherley.

The marriage cert might show her Woolwich address but as she married in her home town, it might just show her temporary address back with the family?
