Many thanks.
The photo looks a lot sharper.
These two of them are my great great uncles from northern Germany.
They sailed their own boat from northern Germany to Williamstown, Melbourne in the 1880's

I think you will get better results if you scan just the photo without the large border: Meanwhile here are my quick attempts
