Bridport hospital at Bedford Place?

Hello

My father was born at 1 Bedford Place, Bridport in 1942.  Some of my searches seem to suggest this was the former workhouse.  Does anyone have any information on this site, was it a local infirmary during the war or more specialist (mother and baby home)?   Any photos about? My Grandmother and the family were from Southampton and moved back there not long afterwards.

Thank you for that, a particularly good photo.  Hopefully there are old photos around to dig up too.
