Todd / Rollins
« on: Monday 10 October 22 22:09 BST (UK) »
HELLO  i m seeking details  William Todd born Canada West 1847.  Sister Ella Jane Todd born 1858 Canad West.     !860 they lived Potters Yates NY with George W Warner @ Mary Jane Warner  Mary Jane was born Rollins in Ireland  the family moved to Canada and then onto the US There is possibly some connection with the Rollins family, maybe Mary Jane had a Sister that died young. I have looked at a number of avenues . On checking later census I have drawn a blank with both William @ Ella Jane.  I have lots of details of George W @ Mary Jane Warner but no connection after 1860.   I would appreciate any help.   Thank You.

Do I have this right?
Mr Todd
  + maybe Rollins?
    - William Todd (1847, Ont - )
    - Ella Jane Todd (1858, Ont - )

1860 Census Potters, Yates Co, NY
  George W Warner, 26, NY
Mary Jane (Rollins) Warner, 22, Canada West
  William Todd, 13, Canada West
Ella Jane Todd, 2, Canada West

-----------
Edit: Disregard everything from here to the next dashed line. see next post.

The only William Todd I found in Ontario in 1851 is this one:

1851 Cartwright, Durham Co, Ontario
Henry Todd, 36, born Ireland
Mary, 30, born Canada
Jacob W, 8, born Canada
Samuel, 7, born Canada
William H, 5, born Canada
Ann, 2, born Canada

All Presbyterian Est.

I don't know if he is the same person as this one:

1861 Cavan, Durham Co, Ontario
Joseph Kelly, farmer, 31, born Ireland
Thomas Kelly, 78, born Ireland
Elizabeth Kelly, 76, born Ireland
William Todd, laborer, 15, born Upper Canada

all Presbyterian

http://central.bac-lac.gc.ca/.item/?app=Census1861&op=img&id=4107391_00215

or this one:

1871 Rawdon, Hastings North, Ontario
Ralph Lavis, 70, born in England, farmer, C of England
Mary Lavis, 77, born in England, C of England
William Todd, 25, born Ontario, servant, Wesleyan Methodist
Elizabeth Todd, 14, born Ontario, servant, Wesleyan Methodist, going to school

https://central.bac-lac.gc.ca/.item/?app=Census1871&op=img&id=4396349_00460

There weren't that many William Todds in Ontario at the time. I thought there would be more. And I didn't find an Elizabeth Todd in 1861. I thought it was interesting that the difference in age between William and Elizabeth on the 1871 census was the same as the difference in age for the two young people you are looking for.

--------------
Can you post a little more of what you know about the Rollins? Were they from the same part of Ontario as those censuses I found? Would Mary Todd, 30, on the 1851 census fit into their family?
But there is a problem with that theory - I doubt the Rollins parents would have named a daughter Mary and another one Mary Jane. It happens, but not often.

I do appreciate your reply.  I would read up a little more on your notes.    Mary Jane Rollins was born Ireland I do have some details of her arrival in Canada with her Parents and then the move to the US. Mary Jane Rollins married my Gt Gt Grandfather. George W Warner Rochester Monroe NY.  Mary Jane died 1865 shortly after giving birth to a Son  George W Jnr  who died age 3 months,
I will look up the details I have of the move to Canada and then onto the States.  I have never been able to connect the name Todd with the Rollins.    However I will send you those details asap.  Thank You again for your time Appreciated.

Mary Jane Rollins b 1837  Married George W Warner b 1836. m 1855 New York.  Sadly Mary Jane
died shortly after childbirth July 1865.  Son George W Warner b June 1865  Gault Waterloo Ontario
sadly died July 1865 age 3 months.  Died Rochester Monroe. They are buried Mount Hope Cemetery Rochester Monroe NY.

  Issac Newton Todd Son 186401932.

Re The two Mary's I find this quiet common.,  I am called after my Mother Dorothy Mary.
