uploading dna to my heritage
« on: Thursday 06 October 22 11:00 BST (UK) »
Hello,

is there a charge to upload dna (from ancestry test) to myheritage?

also to 'unlock' the tools eg chromosome browser, is the charge a one-off payment and how much is it currently?

I have been googling and can't seem to find an answer relevant to the UK.

thanks,
lisa

Hi, there is no charge to upload raw data to My Heritage but there is a one off charge per kit to access the dna tools.  Not sure how much it currently is although there are often offers if you keep your eye on the website.  You can still use the site without unlocking.

MyHeritage does sometimes make it free to unlock for a limited period (so you get the chromosome browser and admixture tools, plus clustering etc) but it's been for new kits.  Some people delete their kit and upload again when this happens, but you'd lose any notes etc on your matches.

Have you considered FamilyTreeDNA?

Hi Lisa,

You can transfer your raw data for free but the extra tools needed for analysis usually costs $29. I cannot remember if there was an option to pay in local currency so I guess you will have to pay online in US$ and see how much it costs when the invoice hits your bank. It is a one off fee so it is quite reasonable.

Just checked back through my records and I paid MH £35 to unlock the tools after my upload in June 2021. The payment was in pounds sterling, but if you can find an option to pay $29 it may be worth doing, even at today's conversion rates; particularly if you have a foreign currency fee free bank or credit card.

thank you all for the advice, I've uploaded the dna, so I will see in a few days what the position is.
At least I now have an idea of what to expect, thanks.

I too uploaded my Ancestry DNA to My Heritage but did not pay to unlock any features.

After a while they offered their own DNA test at a very reasonable price which is still showing as £39 so paying to unlock Ancestry’s results seemed pointless, I bought the My Heritage DNA test and that included access to the comparison tools.

As a side issue, the top My Heritage matches are Cousins of my highest Ancestry DNA match and they responded to contact requests.
