The marriage certificate would give you their fathers’ names and occupations which would help.
You would also find out if the marriage was a civil or church record and if a church one, you might be able to find parish records.

It looks as though Fanny was registered as Margaret Mary McGuire in 1891.

Thank you for all your advice. I was wondering what fanny was short for. I have put a post on the relevant Irish forums to see if any family trees link up there but I think you are right, I need their marriage to go d the connections back.

A great-uncle of my mother was baptised with one name and registered with a different first name. Friends of my granddad also changed the name of a son between baptism and birth.
