Looking for some advice regarding old photos please
« on: Sunday 04 September 22 19:49 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for some advice regarding some black and white 1960s photos.  The photos have been sellotaped into an old soft card scrap book.  Some photos have fallen out but still have old sellotape attached others are still sellotaped into the book.  It is specifically what to do about the sellootape I'm looking for advice about, is it best to leave it on or is there a safe way of taking it off before moving them into a more suitable album? (I am in the process of scanning them), Thank you  :)

I imagine heat will make the sellotape removable but probably will leave some adhesive behind.  Too much of anything might damage your photos so I would test one photo first.
Steam from a kettle spout - low setting on a hairdryer - bright sunshine.
If you are scanning at a high resolution and posting the results on the forum I'm sure the Restorers will be able to digitally remove the Sellotape marks allowing you to print them off.   Good Luck, cheers, Ian

I think it's  better to scan at high resolution, as Ian suggests, and upload them individually. This prevents any further damage to the image. Trying to remove sellotape severely risks destroying the parts of the image underneath the sellotape.

My father was keen on using sellotape on damaged photos and I had to do the restoration of them! My sister spilling white paint on some was even worse  :-X
