Roger CONWAY and Family
« on: Monday 05 September 05 20:23 BST (UK) »
Hello

I am looking for information on Roger Conway and Family.  Roger was born in Northrop Cum, Flint in 1814.  His father was Thomas Conway.

Roger married Sarah Roberts in Dec 1837 in Flint.

In 1838 Sarah and Roger had a daughter, Maria in Flint.

Roger died in 1876 at Roskell Square, Flint.  His death was certified by his son Henry of Eaton Terrace, Flint.

Henry was born in Flint, from census records he appears to have been born between 1841 and 1843.

I cannot find any trace of Roger or Sarah on any census returns for England and Wales.  I can trace Maria in 1871 as i know she married Richard Hayes in 1862 in Holywell Parish Church.  Maria's residence at the time of marriage was Bagilit.

Can any kind person, track Roger.

Thank you 8)

This is a surprise,and as they say;"Bloods thicker than water"!Roger's Father Thomas was the brother of my Greatx4-Grandfather Edward,who was born in Flint in 1772.Edward was the son of James Conway and Mary Jones.He was christened Edward Jones,as he was born before the couple married at Flint in 1775.However he took the Conway name as he was married to Ann Davies at Flint in c 1793.Iii also have been unable to find Roger on any Census,but I would very much welcome any details you may have of his descendants.

Hello Again

Many many thanks for your replies.  Appreciated.

Roger and Sarah Conway had a daughter, Maria Conway born 5 March 1838 in Flint.  She married Richard Hayes in 1862 (see original post)  Maria died in 1880, i presume she died as a result of childbirth as she had a son John who was born in 1880 .

I can provide details of their children if you would like.  It might be worth noting that Sarah Ann Hayes (Maria and Richard's daughter) married a Thomas Conway in c1880).

The only death entry i could find on the BMD index states that Roger Conway died at Roskell Square, Flint, in 1876.  His son Henry on Eaton Terrace was in attendance.

Henry was born in c.1841 in Flint, He married a Margaret and had a son called David, born c1865 in Hanley, Staffs.

On the 1901 census Henry was living with his wife and Grandson Edward aged approx 6.

Henry lived in Mount street, Flint and was mainly a chemical labourer on most of the census records.  on the 1901 census he was a chemical labourer but had paralysis for six months.

On the information, provided by William Jones (thank you Cousin :D) you mention Edward Jones as the brother of Thomas Conway.  do you have any other information on those ancestors that you listed? birth dates, death dates etc.

I would be delighted to provide further information.  I am still researching, so dates given in this post are not final.

Many thanks Kimberly once again,and I have to say it is very rare that I meet a Conway cousin on this Site!First of all I was able to gain all the info about the Hayes children off the Census Entries.you are probably aware that Richard Hayes married again after 1891 to a Maria from Lancashire.The Thomas Conway that Sarah Ann married is not of our Family apparently.He was born in Flint in c 1854,and his Father was a Peter Conway born in Ireland in c 1830.Edward Jones(Conway) was baptised in Flint March 18th 1772,to Parents James Conway and Mary Jones.James Conway and Mary Jones married in 1775,their known children as well as Edward were;
Henry Baptised,May 4th 1777.
Roger Baptised,September 26th 1779.
Possible Twins;
Elizabeth and Anne,Baptised April 17th 1787.
Thomas,Baptised April 8th 1789.
Thomas Jones married Jane Jones at Flint january 28th 1811.Their known children are;
Roger,Baptised April 24th 1814.
Thomas,Baptised May 4th 1816.
Maria,Baptised May 27th 1820.
All the above info was taken from the transcribed Parish Registers of Flint by Clwyd FHS.I can't say with certainty the Birth of James Conway,the only one in the Flint area that would fit with the above is one Baptised in Holywell,September 9th 1744,to Parents-John and Emma Conway.of course you can view Edward Jones(Conway)'s many descendants on my Webpage,the Link to which is with all my messages.One minor point,is that I am not linked with any of these Jones Families,other than of course their Marriage into the Conway Family,my Mother was born Elsie Conway,May 13th 1912.

 :)  Hello William

Thank you once again for the information.  I am busy looking through your webpage, congratulations on a job well done. !

Richard Hayes did indeed remarry Maria Walsh  in 1883.  Are you aware that they appear on the 1901 census living at 4 Roskell Square, Flint.  They had another son, Peter aged 14 on the census and born in flint.

I have been looking at the BMD index for the death of Thomas Conway, Edward's brother, there are three entries in the late 1840's one in the holywell district in 1847 and the others in St. Asalph.  Do you happen to know if they featured on the Flint census for 1841 or 1851, or is this part of the mystery of being unable to trace Roger Conway for so long?

With kind regards

Kimberly

Many thanks for your reply,and I have not seen Thomas or Roger in the 1841 or 1851 Census.The only Census Entries I have seen were part of a Report my Mother's First cousin Kenneth had someone to compile for him.However it only concentrated on the descendants of Edward.I have seen the Census entry of Richard and Maria in 1901.You have not told me yet Kimberley how you fit into all this.

Hello William

Thank you for the latest information.  My apologies, i get so carried away i forget to mention about me.  My mother, Marion Hunter, (nee Edwards) is the great granddaugther of Richard and Maria Hayes (nee Conway).

Her mother, Lizzie Johnson was born in Flint, as were most of the Johnson Family some of whom married into the Conway Family.  (still looking into that side of things).

On a slightly different note, you may have seen my posting on this site, regarding Jack Hayes, he is somehow descended from Richard and Maria Hayes.

An excellent rugby player, who lived in Widnes,

Will be in touch again.
