Murder in Blackburn

I'm tying to find out for any information relating to a murder in Blackburn in the early 1800s in which a husband stamped.to.death his wife with a wooden false leg the name suggested to me is John Pickering his wife was called Maria Elizabeth Pickering maiden name Embley hope someone can help or guide me to look.for information, thanks

Maybe a later incident to fit with what you describe...?

But on 5 January 1849, the Hull Packet reported that John Pickering had been brought up by warrant for assulting his wife Maria Pickering, his wife. Fined 1s. and 11s for costs in default, and sent to Louth for 14 days.

Just to add. There is another potential couple in Blackburn, a John Pickering and a Maria Cook who married in Blackburn in 1836. I mention this in case that newspaper report I added relates to them. There is a Maria and John Pickering with family in Blackburn for many years in the censuses.

It was John Embley who killed his wife Elizabeth nee Pickering with his wooden leg.
