NSW registration Certificate errors
« on: Friday 02 September 22 01:34 BST (UK) »
Has anyone else had problems with the way the NSW registrar of Bmd's  provide certificates?

I have had two very clear transcription errors, on trying to get it resolved have been directed all over the shop with no response.

Error on marriage has Bride grooms' family name  ....Eggens... his father's with... Eggins...
[usual way]  the information is irregular as well [I am very familiar with contents of certificates however this different!

I am still trying to track down where the originals are held with no luck as they are Wesleyans.

Error on a death, registration year 1893, received the certificate and states death year is now 1873!! Not as purchased 1893. Burial is 1893, clearly transcription error.

I rang immediately on receival of this certificate and pointed out the error, was informed it is a legal document that can never be changed??
I said it is clearly clerical error by your transcribers and the register should check and have it corrected [I am not criticizing transcribers as I know how easy and how hard it is to notice these errors] .... was then told madam the death would have been registered 20 years later? yet burial was 1893 as is the registration year on the Bmd index.

Why on earth are they typing these certificates? surely it is more practicable and even cheaper doing copies like they used in past years and most other registers use. Victoria could teach them a thing or too.

I waited 7 weeks for all but 1 of these 5 certificates... they happily take the money then forget you exist... I don't think I would have received them even now... if I hadn't rung and complained... so am not happy!  My rant for the day!

Any clues on where the original Wesleyan Records would be held?

When I record the names on NSW Certificates, I do not try to correct the spelling.  It makes it easier for others to track down.  I am now wondering if the NSW BDM is going to print a list of Districts for the codes they are now adding to more recent BDMs on the index.
Smith - Ayrshire, Pyrmont, Newtown.  Dunsmore - Ayrshire.  Fyfe - Lanarkshire.  Patterson - Hunter Valley, Goulburn.  Rex - Yorkshire, Hobart.  Colbran - Sussex, Hawkesbury.  Lovell - Somerset, Marsfield.  Gallard - Kent,  Marsfield.  Sherriff - Angushire.  Cussen.  Dean - Mudgee.  Hill - Somerset, Gulgong
