Decipher name please
« on: Monday 22 August 22 23:08 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help decipher the name please? It’s from a landscape painting from my mum’s house. She sadly passed away last year. I’m certain she was gifted the painting by a local amateur artist and if they’re still alive I’d love to try and get in touch with them but I’m struggling to work out their name.

If it is by a local amateur artist, you could ask around any local artists, to see if they recognise the work and/or the signature.

The application of the paint in that small snip, suggests that the artist was skilled in the watercolour technique.

Doesn't look like a D but the rest of the first name looks like David and the surname starting Hodg perhaps.

Where is "local" please - what town or village was it?
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

I thought the first name might be “Gavin”.
Second name could be “Hodginson”

Thank you for your suggestions everyone. I too thought Gavin H but I’m still unsure.

The scene is of Dysart harbour in Fife.

Gadget, I might just go with your suggestion to contact some local artists. No harm in trying anyway.

There are quite a few artists' groups in that area.  I did some research on artists there in the late 1980s-1990s. I'm a bit rusty now though.
