Hi I'm looking for more  info  on Private William Bromley 9146 South staffs regiment, was he a POW.
Found info on Internet with Lichfield Mercury

I'm not sure that the telegram is connected as the reference is FR, not R, but I'm very happy to stand corrected on that.

The card says he was repatriated 17 Feb 1915, and other records say he was discharged 2 Oct 1915 due to wounds.

I don't know exactly when he was captured but he first landed in a theatre of war 4 Oct 1914, so he wasn't on active service for long.

The newspaper you mention lists four men from the South Staffordshire Regiment being exchanged for German prisoners, and flicking through the war diary for around that period I can see a report of one man missing on 18 Jan 1915, and another three missing on 31 Jan 1915. 

No names are mentioned unfortunately, but it could be the same four. 

Scrap that - I was looking at the wrong diary (and there were more than 4 men exchanged!)  ::)

OK thanks very much, I know he joined up in 1912 and that he was in the BEF British expeditionary force and lost his leg
