Gavsmum, I sent you a private message. I think I've found the link between you and your match.

Decor.  Sorry for the delay in replying I have been looking after grandchildren all day.  Also for the personal message.  I can't seem to work that out unless its extreme tiredness haha.
The person that you found, I have had him come up many times when I have been looking as that seems to be the only person in the country with that name.  I dismissed it because Ancestry has the person down as a female and also he is in the south and my grandmother, mum and I were all born in Leicestershire.  The Ryders before that were from Colchester.
Thank you so much for going to so much trouble but, unfortunately, I don't think this is the one.

Lindsey

I was wondering if perhaps the DNA test was from his mother and he'd set up an account on her behalf and that's why female? I think the surname Ryder is also a very big coincidence so I wouldn't recommend dismissing it just yet. Is it conceivable your mother had an illegitimate child in 1945?

Yes it's quite possible.  She was born in 1924 and didn't meet my dad until after the war, getting married in 1947.  She, herself, was brought up by her grandmother so she wouldn't want to put her through that again. I think I am going to have to sit and go through all the quarters.

Yes, DNA tests can sometimes throw up some surprises. Purchasing the 1945 birth certificate might be the only way to know for sure. Especially if the match on Ancestry doesn't respond.
