Model Farm Crosscanonby
« on: Monday 15 August 22 09:14 BST (UK) »
I have the death certificate of an Irish ancestor Samuel Caffey which states that he died at Model Farm in February 1867 aged 49. The informant - who made her mark was Mary Southwell present at the death Fleming Square Maryport.

Does anyone have any knowledge of Model Farm or indeed any other comment?

Thanks for that - I do have it but very little else about the couple. Their son Hugh goes to Borgue where he marries in 1856 and I have him well documented but his parents not! They came from County Down.

Thank you Trish - didn't know that and wouldn't have thought of doing a search for her - it's all grist to the mill.

In the 1871 census there is a "Modle Farm" at Nether Hall in Maryport.

Also there are 1865 newspaper mentions of Mechi Model Farm near Brayton, eleven miles from Maryport. Too far away!

Carlisle Journal 22 February 1867.  There's a similar announcement in the Carlisle Journal

Perhaps Camp Farm

"Built as a model farm in the mid-1860s by the Senhouse family, ..."

Close to Nether Hall
