bristol orphanage ashley down, bristol
« on: Saturday 13 August 22 17:36 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find out where orphans who died at the orphanage at Ashley Down (Mullers) were buried. Does anybody know this, or if not, does anybody know where I might find the information - perhaps some archives in Bristol or something? There doesn't appear to be anything online to tell me, and searching online grave databases with a specific name doesn't bring anything up.
Thanks

Have you tried asking Mullers themselves? I think I've read that they're generally very helpful to family historians - more information here:

No I haven't asked them yet. I asked them something else recently and was told that they are extremely busy at the moment and not able to answer queries without a very long wait of several weeks for a reply. Thought I'd ask here in case any Bristol resident already knew the answer.

Try an email to cems.crems@bristol.gov.uk (Bristol City Council).

But my guess would probably be Greenbank Cemetery.

Just a thought - rather than asking anything which would involve looking through the records, if you could get hold of someone on the phone and ask in general terms where children might have been buried, they might be able to give a quick answer on the spot.

So everybody I have asked, including the Muller Trust, doesn't seem to know where the orphans were buried. Does anybody on here have access to parish records for Bristol, which are not online, which includes burials, who might be able to look up a few specific names of children who died there? his might lead to the location.

I did wonder about Horfield Parish Church, but I have just noticed on an old map that St Werburghs rectory is quite close so maybe that is the parish church covering that part of Ashley Down.
