De Greaves/ Greaves
« on: Wednesday 10 August 22 15:03 BST (UK) »
I am looking for any information on the De Greaves Family, particularly those before Richard Lambert Greaves who was born in roughly 1848 Ireland and died in 1932 Echuca, Victoria Australia. He married Elizabeth Gunn in Australia.

His parents were Robert Greaves/ De Greaves and Maria Lambert.

I think the De before the name Greaves is confusing me because it doesn't sound like a last name that would be from Ireland. If anyone knows why there is a De in front of the name or has any information on this family please let me know!

Is this his father's grave?

I don't believe so. I just found this newspaper article on that death but it says he was 24 at the time and that would make his date of birth after Richard's.

If you have access to Ancestry there are some well sourced trees for your relation and it seems his father was born in Liverpool. His mother was born London and they married in Ireland his father was  General in the army

I have looked at some of the online trees, but have not sighted this certificate, only references to the index shown below-

Elizabeth Gunn
Richard Lambert Greaves
1872   Victoria
Reg 2725

Purchase and download will show parental details of both parties plus a good deal of other relevant information.

ADDING
Elizabeth had possibly reverted to GREAVES by the time of her death in 1943.  Though she and the family were De GREAVES on the Electoral Rolls in Echuca
