Help needed to identify uniform, please
« on: Tuesday 09 August 22 20:57 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,

Would anyone out there happen to know what regiment the man (my great-uncle) in the photograph might have belonged to? The hat seems quite distinctive, but my military knowledge is not sufficient for me to be able to identify it.

Huge thanks in advance to anyone who might be able to help.

Steve

Yes, but without any badges visible very hard to say.
Hope one of the brilliant people on RootsChat can help.
Viktoria.

The headgear is a glengarry, if that's any help?

See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glengarry

I'm not sure certain but I think that is the Royal Scots Fusiliers cap badge. His epaulette also appears to have [R]SF on it as well.
(1) Janions of Cheshire, Lancashire, Hawaii, Vancouver and Seattle.
(2) Gregorys of Tarporley, Cheshire.
(3) Pughs of 'The New Pale' near Frodsham and Delamere in Cheshire.
(4) Nevills of Llanelly, Llangennech and Felinfoel.
(5) Yaldens of Ovington/Lovington in Hampshire.
