Electoral Rolls NSW
« on: Friday 05 August 22 00:11 BST (UK) »
HI Everyone
I thought I would restart my Hubert GAVIN Charles enquiry under the Electoral Rolls NSW Subject as I am collating ALL of the Huberts now.

There seems to be an anomaly? perhaps, not sure.  Even though I cannot see the actual records from ancestry I made a list and sometime HUBERT G. CHARLES is entered twice e.g.
1954 TWO ENTRIES in SHORTLAND (Newcastle area I imagine)
1958  TWO ENTRIES one NEWCASTLE and one in SHORTLAND
1972  TWO ENTRIES
1977  TWO ENTRIES one in SHORTLAND + NEWCASTLE

Does this have any significance at all??

My guy died in 1968 and he is listed in Parramatta Electoral Roll in 1930 and 1933 at least.

He may have left NSW possibly, there are a couple of random entries 1943 one in Broadmeadow and the other in High St. BRANXTON??

Anyway I thought I would ask so I can get all of this straightened out.  LOL If possible.  Kindest regards Dianna

Hi Dianna
The NSW death index has a death in 1987 of a Hubert Gavin CHARLES - mother named Rachel - so definitely another man with the same name.

Why do you think that the Hubert CHARLES who died in Cessnock in 1968 was the son of Hubert and Ada?

1954

Hubert Gavan, Gardener
Auldrey, Home Duties

47 Brunker Road, Broadmeadow

The other Hubert CHARLES in Shortland is a fireman, in 1958 he is in Newcastle.

1958

Hubert Gavan, Gardener
Auldrey, Home Duties
John Gavin, Clerk

47 Brunker Road, Broadmeadow

1972 (Two electoral rolls, Federal and State)

Hubert Gavan, Yardhand
Auldrey, Home Duties
Elaine, Typist

47 Brunker Road, Broadmeadow

1977 (Two electoral rolls, Federal and State)

Hubert Gavan, Yardhand
Auldrey, Home Duties
Elaine, Typist

47 Brunker Road, Broadmeadow

HI Debra
Thanks for that, well at least I can understand the two separate entries now. It's a long story really about the TWO Huberts.  One married to Auldrey DEAKIN in 1932 and My Great Uncle married to Edna  Madge ERWIN in 1930 Parramatta.

In a nutshell I had corresponded many years ago with the daughter Elaine Charles who appears on the 1978 list as typist with her parents.

The guy who died in 1987 has the incorrect parents listed as RACHEL.  Rachel is the mother of his wife AULDREY DEAKIN.  Huberts daughter did not give the information for the death certificate.

I am at the moment trying to track down the Granddaughter of My Uncle who (possibly) died in 1968.  His son was Kenneth Willis (Charles) and he obtained all of his Dad's medical records.  Ken died in 2008 and his death notice has no children listed.  So I have lost contact with my cousin who was living in Oxenford Qld in the late 1990's.

One thing about the guy in Broadmeadow he called himself FRED as he did not like the name HUBERT.  I did find a newspaper report for the death of his Father in law SAMUEL JAME DEAKIN 13 AUGUST 1938 NEWCASTLE MORINING HERALD.  There is one notice there: The Relatives of Mr and Mrs F CHARLES are invited etc.

My Great Uncle Hubert was in Prison then in Parramatta Gaol.  Hmmm. From 25.5.1938 until 23.1.1939.

Descriptions of the two HUBERTS are completely different also.  It's a riddle!  Hope I can sort it out.

Also waiting on divorce papers for Edna Madge Erwin and my Uncle in 1942. That may be revealing.

For all I know he may not have been in NSW.  Time will tell.  Many thanks Dianna
