You post says “Born 25.6.1846”
In 1891 he is 32yrs old which does not equate to an 1846 birthyear?? His brother Michael is 35
Have you discounted the 1892 death in Merthyr for Peter Dacey aged 30? No other Peter Dacey on the 1891 in Glamorgan
Hi Carole,
I have the ledger entry for the Ireland, Civil Registration Marriages Index for Michael Deasy and Mary Donovan it gives their ages as Michael 24 and Mary 19.
Ireland, Catholic Parish Baptism Registers
Michael Deasy baptism 4 Feb 1844
Born: Cregg, Kilfaughnabeg Parish, Cork
Ireland, Catholic Parish Baptism Registers
Mary Donovan baptism 15 April 1854
Born: Cregg, Kilfaughnabeg, Cork, Ireland
The baptism dates show that at the time of their marriage their true ages were
Michael 27 and Mary 17
I believe they lied about their ages to shrink the age gap between them from 10 yrs to 5 yrs..
The baptisms show that Michael would be 37 on the 1881 Wales Census and Mary would be 27 which means that Michaels age is off by 7 yrs and Mary's is off by 2 yrs. Mary's age being off by 2 yrs is very plausible and Michael's age being off by 7 yrs is not impossible because the census takers I've been told were not highly educated people they came from the middle class and not everyone back then in the middle class went to school, so mistakes were bound to happen. Michael was 2 yrs older than Peter so their ages would have been close; as for the 1892 death for Peter Dacey I have only the Civil Registration Death Index online no ledger entry for this record, can't say anything for sure. I did put in my tree as there is nothing else for Peter Dacey after 1892, his nephew John Peter Dacey was named for him when he was born in 1892. So about 80% sure it's my Peter Dacey.
