Peter Deasy lost his trail after 1891 Glamorganshire, Wales Census
« on: Monday 25 July 22 21:53 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone,

I need a little help tracing my 2nd Great Uncle Peter Deasy/Dacey born 25 June 1846 Cregg, Kilfaughnabeg Parish, Cork, Ireland. I have the 1881 and 1891 Census for Michael Dacey in Merthyr Tydfi, Glamorganshire, England which shows Peter Deasy/Dacey is living with his brother Michael Deasy/Dacey Jr and his wife Mary Donovan Deasy/Dacey who were married in 1871 in Kilmacabea Parish, Cork, Ireland. After the 1891 Census I have hit a brickwall Ancestry.com doesn't have much in the way of 1901 and 1911 Welch Census for Deasy/Dacey in Glamorganshire. I was wondering if someone with access to FindMypast or My Heritage could take a look and see if those sights have anything for him in 1901 and 1911.

Thanks for any help you can give me!    Maria

Have you checked the English & Scottish 1901 & 1911

Have you also checked the Irish 1901 & 1911

Have you checked for a death?  www.freebmd.org.uk

You post says “Born 25.6.1846”

In 1891 he is 32yrs old which does not equate to an 1846 birthyear??   His brother Michael is 35

Have you discounted the 1892 death in Merthyr for Peter Dacey aged 30?  No other Peter Dacey on the 1891 in Glamorgan

Hi CaroleW,

The 1911 Census for Peter's brother Michael Dacey shows place of birth as GLANDORE, Kilfaughnabeg Parish, Cork, Ireland that is 10 minutes or so from where Michael was married at St Mary's Church in Kilmacabea Parish. I have the Ireland, Civil Registration Marriage Index record and the corresponding Ledger entry for the Marriage of Michael Deasy and Mary Donovan 18 July 1871 parents Michael Deasy Sr and John Donovan. It appears the Wales Census is not accurate regarding the ages and birth dates, Michael Deasy was born 2 Feb 1844 Cregg, Kilfaughnabeg Parish and his brother Peter Deasy was born 25 June 1846 in Cregg, Kilfaughnabeg Parish. Michael would be 37 on the 1881 Wales Census and Peter would be 35 on the same census.    Maria

CaroleW,

Thanks! I did not think to check deaths in Glamorganshire, Wales I believe the 1892 is most likely Peter Deasy/Dacey I've been looking for. I will request a copy of the death record for him to make sure its him.   Maria

Hi Osprey,

I am aware that Glamorganshire is in Wales, I checked my original post it mentions Wales only, but thanks for the heads up though!   Maria

In 1881 Michael is 30 & Peter is 28.  Mary is 25

Michael & Mary's eldest child is only 3yrs old which is strange if they married in 1871.

I agree that the ages between the 2 censuses are not consistent but if it is Peters death in 1892 - he would have been 46 but age is 32 on the 1891 census & 30 on the death reg which is a big difference

CaroleW,

According to the Ledger entry for the Civil Registration of Michael Deasy and Mary Donovan's marriage Michael was 24 yrs old (1847) and Mary was 19 yrs (1852) old which shows that even on the marriage record their birth dates were off as Michael was born 1844 and Mary was born 1854. I also found a child in the Wales Civil Registrations born 1874 Elizabeth Ann Dacey who I believe is their child I haven't found anymore than her birth record which makes me think she may have died shortly after birth.   Maria
