Irish Harringtons from Whitechapel
« on: Sunday 24 July 22 20:35 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace some family who migrated from Ireland during the famine and settled in the East End of London but have hit a total brick wall with this line.

My G-G grandmother was Elizabeth Harrington who lived in Whitechapel, London (born approx between 1840-1845) and married to a James Goodman who worked in the docks in the East End. They originally came from the Beara Peninsula in Ireland (Cork/Kerry). We only discovered this through a DNA test on Ancestry recently and through looking at our matches with the surname.

I know it’s a long shot but I was wondering if anyone in this group has links to the East London Harringtons (or Goodmans) or even to Elizabeth Harrington. I have very little information. I did find a record for an Elizabeth Harrington born 1847 living with parents Ellen and John in St Anne Soho but I don't know if it's the right Elizabeth.

Any help or anyone with links to this family would be much appreciated!
Northampton: Patenall
Wolverhampton: Butler, Hees
Isle of Wight/Hampshire: Caws
Wiltshire: Barnes, Bowman, Lewis
Whitechapel / Cork: Harrington, Sullivan

As they were Irish, im assuming they were Catholic so I'll have a look for baptisms and marriages in Ireland and such. In the meantime,

- On Elizabeth and James marriage certificate, is her father's name listed?
- Do you have Eliza and James on any census? what is her birthplace?
- Have you found any censuses (1851,1861 etc) that could be Eliza before marriage?
- What were the names of their children? If there is any baptisms for them, is there any sponsors?

 :)
