Mr. Reeves is a reference to a recent topic on Rootschat, where we don't have any sign of the chap on a census, we don't know when he was born, or when he died.
I think things with your William Alfred are not as bad as that!

I wouldn't rule out the Lewisham baptism at the moment, because of the Long connection.
But there is not a lot else to back it up!

Could this be him in 1851, in Tewin, Hertfordshire?
Alfred Bowman, Servant, Unmarried, 28, Shoeing Smith, born Herts Tewin.
Transcribed as Howman on ancestry!

Head is Thos Ford, 41, Smith employing 4 men.
Perhaps Tewin is given as place of birth simply because he was living and working there!

My Boorman lady was baptized as Bowman!

Hi, & many thanks for more help.
I've dug out my Family Search password (which I'd noted in a Safe Place which I'd forgotten (duh!) & I'll see what they've got.  One complication is that there was a local family called BOWMAN, which makes me leery about alternative spellings
The Youngs were related to Emily Ensom, William Alfred's wife - who ran the mill & forge  after his death
I had the reverse of Mr Reeves,  I was haunted by two Henry Budds, seemingly the same age, children attended the same school, lived  in the same district of London....
